The 12 Days of NPR, Inc. has led us to resources for creating Response to Intervention initiatives in elementary schools as well as secondary schools. Today we look at how to use RTI strategies that are targeted to address the needs of students who are socio-economically disadvantaged. In this new laminated reference guide, Angel Barrett provides a range of evidence-based Tier 1 and Tier 2 RTI strategies targeted specifically to address the needs of students who are socio-economically disadvantaged.
This guide discusses challenges these students face, as well as strategies for overcoming these challenges, such as backwards lesson planning, pre-teaching, guiding questions, and sentence frames. You’ll also find information on the impact of Common Core State Standards on students who are socio-economically disadvantaged.
Dr. Barrett has experience working with socio-economically disadvantaged youth as both a teacher and a principal, and she provides us with a great deal of insight, tips, and tools for implementing RTI.
